Blogs

blogs
Blog is an abbreviation of the phrase 'weB LOG' which describes its function fairly succinctly: it's a log, or diary, published via the (world wide) web.

Some blogs are simply for consumption by family and friends only - others, such as The Huffington Post, has a worldwide readership of millions which rivals mainstream media like newspapers and magazines.

This article about the world's most powerful 50 blogs gives some idea of the range and depth of blogs from the political blogs with the power to influence governments to technical digests and gossip columns.

Most importantly, a blog is a relatively simple matter to set up and maintain. Intended for use by non-programmers, most blogging software (of which the most popular are WordPress and Google's Blogger.com) is as simple to understand and use as  a basic word processor. There are some organisations which offer blogging space free of charge and particularly simple ways of programming the blog to establish a presence in a few minutes. This simplicity encourages the proliferation of blogs - what it does not promote is the quality of them or their content.

Depending on your needs, it is also possible to use blogging software to create a simple web site. Although the functionality will be limited, if your needs are similar to a frequently updated brochure, you may well find that a blog will achieve what you want.

For most people the fact that a blog places control and management directly in the hands of the user and removes the ongoing need for programmers and specialists is paramount. Nonetheless, there are some important considerations to be taken into account before setting up a blog and we are happy to provide startup assistance in a very cost-effective package.
